The August 7th Memorial Park is located at the site of the 1998 United States embassy bombings along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi, Kenya. It contains a notice board listing the names of all those who were reported dead after the incident.
The 1998 United States embassy bombings were attacks which occurred on 7 August 1998. More than 200 people were killed in nearly simultaneous truck bomb explosions in two East African cities, one at the United States Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and the other here at the US Embassy. The attacks, which were linked to local members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, brought Osama bin Laden (1957-2011), Ayman al-Zawahiri (1951-2022), and their terrorist organization, al-Qaeda, to the attention of the US public for the first time, and resulted in the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) placing bin Laden on its ten most-wanted fugitives list. Al-Zawahiri was killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan on 31 July 2022.
