Bangladesh Supreme Court
The Supreme Court of Bangladesh is the highest court of law in the country, comprising the High Court Division and the Appellate Division. It is an impressive and large white building, situated in the Moulana Bhasani Road, and was created as part of the Constitution of Bangladesh, adopted in 1972. This is also the office of the Chief Justice, Appellate Division Justices, and High Court Division Justices of Bangladesh. Since February 2021, there are eight Justices in the Appellate Division and 94 (85 permanent and 9 additional) in the High Court Division.
The Supreme Court of Bangladesh is divided into two parts: The Appellate Division and the High Court Division. The Supreme Court is independent of the executive branch and can rule against the government in politically controversial cases. The Chief Justice of Bangladesh and other judges of the Supreme Court are appointed by the President of Bangladesh, following consultation with the Prime Minister. There used to be a statue of a blindfolded woman outside, but this was removed in 2017.
