Basilica of Saint as Anthony of Padua

Tonga / The Pacific

The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua, on Tauf’ahau Road, was opened by King Tupou IV on 7 January 1980.  It is a Roman Catholic church, a wooden and cone-shaped structure.  built by volunteers and was given the status of Basilica by Pope John Paul II.  Along with St Mary’s Cathedral, it is an important Catholic church in Tonga.
