Chinatown is one of Sydney’s great institutions, an urban enclave in Haymarket, the southern part of the Central Business District, not far from Darling Harbour. It is filled with Chinese restaurants, noodle bars, Asian grocers, street lanterns, signs in Chinese, and oriental archways. There is a Friday night market with food trucks and stalls. It is Australia’s best showcase of Chinese culture.
Chinese immigration to Australia started in the 1800s.
