City Hill

Australia / The Pacific

City Hill is a five-hectare landscaped park located in the centre of Canberra and surrounded by Vernon Circle.  It is one of the points of the Parliamentary Triangle and was central to the original design of Canberra by Walter Burley Griffin.  It features extensive formal tree planting by Charles Weston (1866-1935) from 1921.   (His ashes were scattered in front of the Old Parliament House).  Six major avenues radiate from City Hill giving rise to the symbolic notion of it being the heart of the Capital.  City Hill offers shade, grass and seating.
