Colombo Fort

Fort is the central business district in Colombo.  It is the location for the Colombo Stock Exchange, the Colombo World Trade Centre, and the Bank of Ceylon headquarters.  This is where the Portuguese first landed in the early 16th century.  A former old Dutch warehouse now houses the unique Colombo Port Maritime Museum, which contains a range of model ships and paintings of important people who have visited the country over the years.  There is remarkable architecture in this area, giving evidence of Sri Lanka’s history and culture.   There are also a great number of shops and the area is alive with tuk-tuk’s and people.
