Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay, Singapore

Esplanade — Theatres on the Bay is a performing arts centre in Downtown Core, built between 1996 and 2001, being ceremonially opened in 2002. It was named after the nearby Esplanade Park. It is also nicknamed ‘the Durian’ by locals due to its resemblance to the popular fruit.  The auditorium seats around 1,600 and has the capacity of about 2,000 for the performing arts.  The grandeur and uniqueness of the architecture of this building can be admired both from the interior and exterior.  It contains a concert hall, theatre, recital studio and theatre studio.
