The Haile Selassie Roundabout intersects the Nairobi Expressway, which passes overhead, and Haile Selassie Highway. It is named after Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia (1892-1975) who paid a seven-day state visit to Jomo Kenyatta in June 1964. It was the first state visit to Kenya since Independence. The Emperor and the President were said to be discussing Somalia, where they both had border disputes.
