Hôtel des Mille Collines

Rwanda / Africa

The Hôtel des Mille Collines is a large hotel, which became famous when 1,268 people took refuge within its walls during the 1994 Genocide.  This episode in Rwanda’s history was turned into a famous film, Hotel Rwanda (2004), made by Terry George (born 1952), with Don Cheadle (born 1964) as the hotel manager, though the hotel itself was not used in the film.  The four-star hotel was built in 1973, with 112 rooms, three conference rooms, a bar, a restaurant, a swimming pool and a tennis court.
