Independence Square

Independence Square, next to Independence Memorial Hall, was also built to commemorate Sri Lankan Independence in 1948.   Independence Day celebrations are held here.  In the centre of the square is a monument with a statue depicting the first Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Rt Hon D. S. Senanayake (1883-1952).   There is an avenue of Mango trees and nearby is the Arcade shopping complex.
