Iziko Slave Lodge is one of South Africa’s oldest buildings. It had various names over the years until in 1998 it became a museum dedicated to the history of slavery. Its umbrella theme is ‘From human wrongs to human rights’, addressing issues focused on the awareness of human rights. There are upper galleries which concentrate on displaying ceramics, silverware (not all of it connected directly to South Africa but with a more global emphasis) and collections of Egyptology. It is one of the Iziko Museums which support South African heritage in many ways, particularly social history, art and natural history.
