King George V Gardens were named after King George V (1865-1936), who reigned from 1910 to January 1936. These are beautiful, natural gardens, recognised as one of the finest botanical gardens in the world, and ideally placed for a stroll on a sunny afternoon. In the gardens is a bust of Charles Eugène de la Croix, Marquis de Castries (1727-1800), after whom the city is named.
