The Lake was dug out in the early 1950s, under the leadership of an emblematic figure Georges Kyriakidès, a rich and influential merchant of Greek origin. Having received a speedboat as a gift, he succeeded in convincing the authorities that it was time to create a lake. They agreed to his request on 15 July 1951. The site chosen for the development of this body of water was the valley of the Atemengue plateau, a place ideally located between the administrative district and the residential district of the time. The work lasted a year and ended in April 1952. Five months later, Kyriakides’ speedboat was sailing on the lake. From then on, the place has experienced a real craze with parties and activities organized on Sunday afternoons. A nautical club was created there in 1953.
