Lagos Point

Nigeria / Africa

Glover Memorial Hall is an ancient historical landmark and one of the oldest theatre halls in Lagos. It has recently undergone refurbishment. It is one of the oldest halls in the city and is well known for hosting plays, concerts, and other performances.  The hall has great cultural and historical significance within the area and is well worth visiting.  It is in the Marina area of Lagos and continues to be a beacon of the local culture and tradition of this thriving city.

The Hall is named after Sir John Hawley Glover (1829-85), an officer in the Royal Navy who was Governor of Lagos between 1863 and 1874.  He was known affectionately as ‘Oba Globar’. It is a testament to his popularity that the funding for the Hall was raised entirely by public subscription.
