The Lizulu market is a busy roadside market in the old city centre, divided by the Lilongwe River, with the food market on one side and the clothes market on the other side. The areas are linked with several bamboo bridges, where there is a small toll to cross. This is a popular place to get a genuine local experience of the city. It is the busiest roadside market in Malawi, with farm produce targeting motorists and bus passengers. The market is said to produce approximately five tonnes of waste daily, which is turned into compost.
