The Museu Nacional de Arte (National Museum of Art) on avenue Ho Chi Min, houses collections of paintings, sculptures, drawings, and engravings of artists who have lived and worked in Mozambique stretching from the 1950s to the present day. While the Museum is small (only two rooms), the quality of the collection makes this a worthwhile stop for even the casual lover of art. Additionally, the Museum offers educational programmes, guided tours, workshops, and matters related to the arts. There is a library and document archive for use by researchers and the general public. The Museum opened to the public in 1989, but the building itself was constructed for a different purpose in 1964.
