The National Museum of Natural History was built near the National Museum in 1986. This museum covers the natural heritage of Sri Lanka. It is the only museum in Sri Lanka to represent natural history and natural heritage. The exhibits and information provided give a good insight into centuries of Sri Lankan history. It contains over 5,000 examples of mammals, fossils and geological rocks.
