Old Sea Plane Ramps

Tuvalu / The Pacific

During World War II, a Naval Construction Battalion (also known as Seabees) built a sea plane ramp on the lagoon side of Fongafale. It allowed both long and short seaplanes to have a runway that was functional.  This location stands as a reminder of Tuvalu’s history and the island’s involvement in World War II.
