Sacred Heart Cathedral

Fiji / The Pacific

The Sacred Heart Cathedral or simply Cathedral of Suva at 55 Pratt Street, was built in 1902 with sandstone brought from quarries near Sydney, Australia.  Its architecture was inspired by the churches of Rome in Italy. The building is covered with ornaments, adorned with fine stained glass and has a crypt in the basement.  Roman Catholicism came to Fiji in 1863.
