St Mary’s Cathedral in Kakhrail Road, also called Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception was established as Dhaka’s Catholic church in 1956.  It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary.  The Catholic feast is celebrated here on 8 December.

It is home to the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Dhaka and is one of two cathedrals in the city, the other being the Anglican Cathedral dedicated to St. Thomas.   The current Metropolitan Archbishop is Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario (born 1943).  He was Archbishop of Dhaka from 2011 to 2020.  He became Bangladesh’s first-ever Cardinal in 2016.
