State Library of Western Australia

The State Library of Western Australia is a research, reference and public lending library situated in Perth’s Cultural Centre.  The State Library also is responsible for collecting and preserving Western Australia’s documentary heritage.  The J. S. Battye Library of West Australian History is the section of the library dedicated to West Australiana.  There is a bust of J. S. Battye (1871-1954).  He was a leading historian, librarian and public figure of Perth.  He was the first Chief Librarian of the Victoria Public Library and he remained in office for sixty years until his death.
