Te Ahi Ka Roa is two slabs of stone, cloaked in trickling water, with flames issuing from the top, located in Queen Elizabeth II Square, a peace monument which represents ‘continued tribal occupation, possession & guardianship of lands, waterways & taongta by Ngati Whatatua ki Tamaki & their responsibility as the host tribe to care for visitors & the environment.’ It is a clever combination of earth, fire and water.
