Point of Interest

The Wynyard Crossing

New Zealand / The Pacific

The Wynyard Crossing is a twin-leaf bascule bridge, which opens quickly and quietly to allow boats to pass, designed to match images of closely tacking yachts.   It is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Viaduct Basin, connecting the revitalised Wynyard Quarter with Te Wero Island and the existing Viaduct Harbour area.  It provides a calm and relaxing way to cross from one side of the basin to the other, while providing a great view of Central Auckland on the one side and the outlet to the larger bay, on the other.  Several marinas surround the basin and there is a fair amount of water traffic.
