The Marine Park

British Indian Ocean Territory / Asia

The British Indian Ocean is one of the largest protected areas on Earth.  The Marine park (also known as reserve) was set up in 2009 to prevent any former inhabitants from returning to the island.  This Park also protects the world’s largest coral reef atoll.  It serves as a breeding ground for important populations of sharks, dolphins and sea turtles.
