The Springbok Experience Rugby Museum in Portswood House on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a world-class modern, interactive museum which tells South Africa’s story through the medium of rugby, South Africa’s most popular sport. There are 60 audio-visual displays, in dramatically lit rooms, set amongst cases containing famous trophies, shirts, boots and other memorabilia associated with the sport. Visitors enter the Springbok tunnel with moving shadows of players walking beside them. The museum was opened in 2013. Rugby first arrived in South Africa in 1862.
