The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art is a non-profit museum opened in 2017 in order to breathe new life into the Silo District of the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. It was converted from the historic Grain Silo building, constructed between 1921 and 1924. It contains the largest collection of contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora.  It has both a permanent exhibition and temporary ones. It was founded by Jochen Zeitz (born 1963), Chairman of the Board of Harley Davison, and others. He made contemporary art the basis of his collection and was determined to make it accessible to the public. Eventually, he found the right location.
