The Trust was thrilled that His Excellency Sir Rodney Williams made special trip to English Harbour on Sunday morning to launch the first marker ion a Commonwealth Walkway in the Caribbean.
Looked on by a bust of Lord Nelson, outside the Docklands Museum, and in the shadow of a King Palm, planted by Her Majesty The Queen as part of her Royal Tour in 1966, the first marker was expertly fixed and floodlighted by Ira, the Supervisor of National Parks works, under the supervision of Commissioner Martin.
It was a pleasure to share the first marker as one of the first things HRH Prince Harry visited during his own Royal tour of the Caribbean. Jim showed The Prince a map of the potential 15km route around the National Park which is likely to include, for the first time, a snorkel trail. HRH showed particular interest in that and seemed pleased with our progress which has now started to develop Commonwealth Walkways in 26 countries.
Our particular thanks to Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner for Antigua and Barbuda in London and Mr Robbie Lyle for the introduction. Trust Chairman Hugo Vickers later met The Hon Gaston Browne The Prime Minister and The Hon Asot Michael, Tourism Minister who extended an invitation to further develop more Commonwealth Walkways in the capital St John’s and island of Barbuda.
