The Cape Town Diamond Museum is on Level 1 of the Clock Tower on the Waterfront. It is a non-profit museum dedicated to creating a new appreciation of diamonds. It was a gift from the diamond jewellers, Shimansky to the city. Here visitors can learn about the history of diamonds and the process of mining for them.
Diamonds were first discovered in the Cape Colony in 1867 and by the 1870s and 1880s Kimberley was producing 95% of the world’s diamonds.
