La Seigneurie

La Seigneurie is the residence of the Seigneur of Sark.  It is a 17th-century manor, filled with interesting items collected by generations of Seigneurs over the centuries, items such as a whalebone seat, a cane wheelchair, a tithe cart and a cannonball.  The house was built in 1675 on the site of a 6th-century monastery.  The house is surrounded by fine gardens, set between granite walls, towers and crenellations, with hardy plants providing a colourful display from Spring until the autumn, a walled garden, potager, pond and a Victorian greenhouse.  There are colourful displays in the recently renovated chapel telling the story of the Seigneurs and the Seigneurie.
