Lawson Tama Stadium

The Lawson Tama Stadium is a multi-purpose venue, currently being used to stage football matches. The building is unique with a spectator stand is built into the hillside. There is no official capacity, but not more than 20,000 people would fit the surrounding grassland.  

It came about when the Government allocated land for the sport after the establishment of the British Solomon Islands Amateur Sports Association in August 1961. Then called the Town Sports Ground, it was ready by 1964. A pavilion and other facilities were added in 1965. Eventually, it was renamed after Eric Lawson, OBE (1910-93), an Australian businessman and politician, who arrived on the island in 1947 and became President of the amateur sports association.
