Lewis Wolfe Levy Fountain

The Lewis Wolfe Levy Fountain is a handsome drinking fountain in the Royal Botanic Gardens, made of polished red and white granite.  Its red granite base supports an Art Nouveau bronze statue of a young girl standing amid reeds, a heron and frogs. The fountain was a gift to the people of Sydney in 1889 from the Levy family in memory of Lewis Wolfe Levy (1815–85), an English-born politician and businessman. The statue by Charles Bell Birch (1832–93), is an important example of aestheticism in Sydney.
