The Pillars of Hercules are a series of striking natural limestone formations located at the entrance to English Harbour on the island’s southern coast. Sculpted over thousands of years by the relentless forces of wind, rain, and crashing waves, these towering cliffs stand approximately 100 feet tall and feature distinct horizontal striations.
Historically, they served as a vital navigational landmark, or “nature’s lighthouse,” visible up to 10 nautical miles offshore, guiding sailors into the safety of the harbour.
The formations are accessible by both land and sea, offering different perspectives of their grandeur.
