State House

Sierra Leone’s State House is the official residence and workplace of the President. It is located at State Avenue on Tower Hill. The State House was constructed in 1895 and was called Fort Thornton. It served, in colonial days, as the residence of the Governor of Sierra Leone. It wasn’t until 1961 that it was dedicated to the President. Today the State House is home to both the President and senior presidential staff’s offices. Here is where cabinet meetings and international meetings with other head of states take place. Although it cannot be accessed by the public, this grand white structure is a significant political building for Sierra Leone.
